It has been really tough for me, hiding who I really am, and I don't want it to be like that for the next young person who wants to play rugby, or some frightened young kid. I don't know if my life is going to be easier because I'm out, but if it helps someone else, if it makes one young lad pick up the phone to Childline, then it will have been worth it.The response from his teammates has been hugely supportive, he reports: "Why didn't you tell us before?"
Well, we know why, don't we guys? But one day, and soon I hope, there won't be a need for the closet anymore.

I sure wish athletes here in the U.S. would come out too. You gotta figure percentage wise how many playing professional sports here in the U.S. today HAVE GOT TO BE GAY!
Unfortunatley in this country I'm afraid they wouldn't last long as being gay here is not as tolerated as in Europe.
Yeah, it makes some of those good ole American boys nervous if their heroes turn out not to be who they expect them to be. I never could figure out why this threatens them so profoundly, other than the obvious conclusion that they are wondering about their own sexuality. That HAS to be the case, given the violent reaction some of them have when such issues surface. Yet another example of how screwed up things get for EVERYbody when we don't have equality.
His ex-wife made a really lovely statement as well, he's obviously a very good man as well as a good rugby player. And hot as hell.
