Sunday Drive: Shall We Dance?

Yul Brynner and Deborah Kerr perform "Shall We Dance" in the 1956 film version of The King and I by Rodgers and Hammerstein:

(Go ahead. Waltz around the house in your bathrobe. I won't tell.)

In Memoriam: Doris Day (1922-2019)

Doris Day, the beloved singer, dancer, actress, and comedienne - and one of the Pork Boys' all-time favorites - has died at her home in Carmel, California, at the age of 97.  God rest her soul.  Although she was one of the brightest lights and greatest talents of the twentieth century, her personal life was unfulfilling to some extent, and she spent the last thirty years in seclusion, far from the bright lights of Hollywood, having quiet dinners at home with old friends and running her animal-welfare foundation,

She occasionally granted telephone interviews, however, including one with the Hollywood Reporter on the occasion of her birthday last month.

Charles Osgood summed up her life and career in this segment of CBS News Sunday Morning in 2008:

Here are a few of her greatest hits to remind my truckbuddies of her incomparably lovely golden voice that now swells the angel chorus above, as we may piously believe:

Sentimental Journey, 1945, with Les Brown and His Band of Renown

It's Magic, 1948, from Romance on the High Seas

Secret Love, 1953, from Calamity Jane

Que Sera, Sera, 1956 - which became her theme song - from The Man Who Knew Too Much

Pillow Talk, 1959, from the eponymous motion picture, which earned Doris an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress

What's My Line, 2/7/60

For the 500th episode of the long-running game show in 1960, Julie Andrews is the Mystery Guest - but I think you fellas will be even more captivated by the studly first challenger, as I was.

FYI - Coach Brown was a champion swimmer who set many state and national records in his day. As recently as 2013, the 79-year-old was still swimming competitively in events for his age group.

Sunday Drive: In the Garden

For my darling Mama - gone to a better world twenty-five years ago this week.
All that the Father giveth me shall come to me;
and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

He that raised up Jesus from the dead
will also give life to our mortal bodies,
by his Spirit that dwelleth in us.

Wherefore my heart is glad, and my spirit rejoiceth;
my flesh also shall rest in hope.

Thou shalt show me the path of life;
in thy presence is the fullness of joy,
and at thy right hand there is pleasure for evermore.

What's My Line, 6/1/58

This would just fry everybody's tomatoes if it were shown today, but your unrepentant Head Trucker thinks it's still hilarious:
