Matthew Shepard: 12 Years
Yesterday was the twelfth anniversary of Matthew Shepard's death, which for a time seemed to galvanize the attention of the nation on the problem of homophobia. Perhaps the recent teen suicides will have a similar effect. Matthew's mother Judy Shepard speaks on this topic:
Just saw my eye doctor and he mentioned this to me too. Said it's been hard hearing about all the recent suicides too. He's straight but is ashamed of Texas for what's been happening lately to make kids feel there's other way out. Rest in peace, Matt.
Went to Laramie with a boyfriend/Wyo grad for Wyo homecoming. He showed me "the bar" where Matthew met his killers. What a sad little town. I live in Denver and there is a great big mural for Matthew on the side of a building by where I park. Think of him every day. Glad to find your blog )through Staricase Witch) I'm a Texan.
May Matthew Shepard and all those who have died because of hatred and prejudice, rest in peace. Just wanted to share that our community had a memorial service Saturday night for the 6 young men who recently took their own lives. I was inspired by the words of many of the speakers.
That's a wonderful thing, Mark, I hope it raised a lot of people's awareness to this evil that has gone on far too long and killed so many. It must stop. Now.
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is discord, harmony; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy. Grant that I may seek not so much to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.
.
We cannot all do great things, but we can do small things with great love.

Churches say that the expression of love in a heterosexual monogamous relationship includes the physical, the touching, embracing, kissing, the genital act - the totality of our love makes each of us grow to become increasingly godlike and compassionate. If this is so for the heterosexual, what earthly reason have we to say that it is not the case with the homosexual?
It is a perversion if you say to me that a person chooses to be homosexual. You must be crazy to choose a way of life that exposes you to a kind of hatred. It's like saying you choose to be black in a race-infected society.
If God, as they say, is homophobic, I wouldn't worship that God.

It was a shame what happened to him. It is a shame when a life is snuffed out to early.

At least straight people are hearing about these deaths, that's a step in the right direction.

Welcome to the Blue Truck, AG. Glad to have you stop by and take a ride anytime.
A horrible anniversary that also includes the terrorist bombing in London.
May dear Matthew Sheppard rest in the peace he so truly deserves.
