Russ Manley said...: That's a very interesting question, Frank. I can think of some possible and partial answers - but this night owl is en route to bed here, and not up for philosophical inquiry at this time.

As a matter of history, though, you have made me realize that the male form has been glamorized in our lifetime, in a way that only the female form was in previous eras, with few exceptions. Hmm.

What I can say is that from about age 14 on up, I was acutely aware that my scrawny physique was a shameful thing, compared to what I'd seen in P. E. locker rooms. Now though, it seems to me that I would have fit into most of those old photographs.
