Waitin' for the Weekend

Something different:  the members of the Brighton Swimming Club assembled in all their, uh, finery on the beach in 1863.  And you thought the Victorians were all stuffy and humorless.

Do click to enlarge.

Now which were the gay ones, do you think?

Ha,ha, great pic. Which ones were gay?...hmm, all the ones with facial hair I would say! Victorian Speedos seem to have had more room I see. ;)

Yes and did you notice the French cut leg openings? Pretty damn racy. I thought you'd get a kick out of this one. And my informants tell me that Brighton is still the gay mecca of the UK - true?

Yes, Brighton is still a gay mecca, but it has rivals now in London (of course), Manchester and Blackpool. Brighton has always had a 'racy' character since being a favorite residence of the then Prince Regent, later George IV, bit the gay connection is more recent, perhaps the 1950's?

George IV was by all accounts a womanizer - but I think we'd have to say, as palaces go, the Brighton Pavillion is pretty damn g-a-y, no? Grin.

You mean all those 'onion' domes are tumescent? ;)

Could be!
