Palm Sunday 2026

Hippolyte Flandrin, The Entry of Christ into Jerusalem, 1844.
Click to enlarge,

Almighty and everliving God, in your tender love for the human race, you sent your Son our Savior Jesus Christ to take upon him our nature, and to suffer death upon the cross, giving us the example of his great humility: Mercifully grant that we may walk in the way of his suffering, and also share in his resurrection; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Addendum, 3/20:  In his Palm Sunday homily, Pope Leo said God does not listen to the prayers of those who claim to wage war in the name of the Prince of Peace, quoting from the first chapter of Isaiah:

The Pork Boys Do Easter, 2023

Actually, these are scenes of both our Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday dinners.  I'll post captions soon, but I think most pics are self-explanatory.

Palm Sunday table setting.

Homemade split pea soup.

From 12 o'clock:  glazed carrots, parsleyed potatoes, baked fish with mayo &
egg white topping, crescent roll

Melting Moments cookies, the original recipe from the Argo cornstarch box.

Marinated lamb shanks ready to go into the oven.
Two shanks make two meals for us.

Homemade bread - M.P. plaited four strands of dough into this pretty pattern.

Hors d'oeuvres.  From 12 o'clock, tomato and avocado slices on toast points, homemade Indian "egg cheese," cucumber sandwiches, crackers, tuna salad dip.

Easter table setting.

Left to right:  roast lamb with carrots, potato salad with radish roses,
and deviled eggs.

Asparagus and Hollandaise sauce, soon to be deliciously combined.

From 12 o'clock:  asparagus, lamb & carrots, mint jelly, potato salad,
bread & butter.

A parfait glass of lemon mousse, topped with whipped cream and a small slice of lemon.  This has become our customary Easter dessert, so sweet, fresh, and festive.

Palm Sunday, 2022: All Glory, Laud, and Honor

 The Lessons appointed for Palm Sunday

The Entrance of Christ into Jerusalem, by Jean-Hippolyte Flandrin, 1844.

The ancient hymn was sung in 2019 at St. Andrew's Church, Chennai, India, by a choir and string ensemble directed by Augustine Paul.  Hymnary.org has more on the origin and significance of the song, along with the lyrics.

In his Palm Sunday homily, Pope Francis has called for an Easter truce in Ukraine:

Sunday Drive: All Glory, Laud, and Honor

The entry into Jerusalem.

The Choir of King's College, Cambridge, sings:

Text from The Hymnal 1982:

Refrain:
All glory, laud, and honor
to thee, Redeemer, King!
to whom the lips of children
made sweet hosannas ring.

1. Thou art the King of Israel,
thou David's royal Son,
who in the Lord's Name comest,
the King and Blessed One. (Refrain)

2. The company of angels
are praising thee on high;
and we with all creation
in chorus make reply. (Refrain)

3. The people of the Hebrews
with palms before thee went;
our praise and prayer and anthems
before thee we present. (Refrain)

4. To thee before thy passion
they sang their hymns of praise;
to thee, now high exalted,
our melody we raise. (Refrain)

5. Thou didst accept their praises;
accept the prayers we bring,
who in all good delightest,
thou good and gracious King. (Refrain)

Sunday Drive: Ride On, Ride On, In Majesty

Palm Sunday

Ride on, ride on, in majesty!
Hark! all the tribes Hosanna cry;
O Savior meek, pursue Thy road
With palms and scattered garments strowed.

Ride on, ride on, in majesty!
In lowly pomp ride on to die!
O Christ! Thy triumph now begin
Over captive death and conquered sin.

Ride on, ride on, in majesty!
The wingèd squadrons of the sky
Look down with sad and wondering eyes
To see the approaching sacrifice.

Ride on, ride on, in majesty!
Thy last and fiercest strife is nigh;
The Father, on His sapphire throne,
Expects His own anointed Son.

Ride on, ride on, in majesty!
In lowly pomp ride on to die;
Bow Thy meek head to mortal pain,
Then take, O God, Thy power, and reign.
