One City, Two Statues

Tallahassee, Florida, has been in the news lately:  two sides of the very same coin.

'David' by Michelangelo Fir JBU005 denoised
Michelangelo's David

Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book has been rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street and building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And that process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.

George Orwell - just a story. Could never happen. Right. And it is very sad that some US citizens are not as civilized as the medieval society which could appreciate art without thinking dirty thoughts.

There is no right to art. Thoughtcrime must be punished. How do you feel about rodents, Frank?

Well we have a nasty packrat living in the giant yucca tree in the backyard and it is systematically chewing off the spikes (leaves). Other than that, New Mexico has its own controversies:

A real four-legged packrat? I didn't know - or maybe just forgot - there were such things.

Thanks for the links. The Santa Fe monument is another example of what Orwell was writing about: destruction of history, which must only reflect what is currently Approved.

Here is another story of sheer fanaticism at work, the dreadful craving for 100% Purity that afflicts the human race from time to time:
