As usual, the Empire State Building is lit up with the colors of the rainbow for three nights this weekend during NYC Pride. This year is the 45th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots that mark the beginning of the modern gay-rights era. I'm sure nobody at the time ever thought they would see such a fabulous sight as this.

Funny how Gay Pride Day used to be a major date on my calendar. I'd attend Pride parades in Hartford on Saturday and the BIG one in NYC on Sunday.
Now, embarrassingly, Connecticut has no Pride Parade or celebration at all (typical of Connecticut apathy) and, well, it's just too inconvenient to go to NY for the day.
Change is strange in a lot of ways.
But Happy Pride Day nonetheless.
Happy Pride Day to you too. I've never attended a Pride parade - they don't happen in small Southern towns, and there's never been the right combination of timing and fellow travelers to go see one in the big cities. And now this tired old queen is too old and weary to want to stand for hours in the hot sun, regardless of who's parading. But I like the thought of "our day."
