Beach Mix, 8/19/18

Let's have a beach party!

Sunday Drive is on summer hiatus while I offer some favorites from the mid-sixties for fun in the sun and tans on the sands.

What memories do these songs bring back for you?

The Birth of the Modern World: 50 Years Ago

On February 9, 1964, the Beatles made their first appearance on the Ed Sullivan show, and the whole world changed, for good or ill. Some might say it was then that the inmates began to take over the madhouse, but so many commentators have expatiated on the cultural shifts since that point in time that your Head Trucker feels no need to add to the discussion. Sunday Drive: Eleanor Rigby

I searched for a hymn but nothing sounded right today. Only this.

Is it possible, just possible, do you think, that instead of Right and Left using all these horrible murders - which are now become routine, a new horror every week in every city and town across the land, it almost seems - to score points off each other with outrageous, unprovable accusations - could it be just barely possible that the fault has nothing at all to do with politics of any stripe - but with ourselves?

WTF: Wait a Minute, Mr. Postman

Sigh. Now I know why my parents shook their heads at the crazy ideas of my generation. Some days it seems like the whole world is being super-sized . . . in reverse. Apparently the next thing to go is your mailbox, if this article from Canada is any portent:

End door-to-door mail delivery

. . . you didn't stop to make me feel better,
by leaving me a card or a letter . . . .
