Gay Trump Voter Learns Harsh Lesson

You cannot imagine the guilt I feel, knowing that I hosted the gathering that led to so much suffering. You cannot imagine my guilt at having been a denier, carelessly shuffling through this pandemic, making fun of those wearing masks and social distancing. You cannot imagine my guilt at knowing that my actions convinced both our families it was safe when it wasn’t.

For those who deny the virus exists or who downplay its severity, let me assure you: The coronavirus is very real and extremely contagious. Before you even know you have it, you’ve passed it along to your friends, family, coworkers and neighbors.
Tony Green thought the virus was a hoax cooked up by Democrats to ruin Trump's re-election chances. After a family gathering last month, however, 14 members of his family became infected with Covid-19, and one has died. Dallas station WFAA reports:

I read the full article and as many of the posted comments as I could in the last 45 minutes or more. The one who expounded on the false premise that the virus was created in China and that Obama and Fauci were somehow to blame and the president's wonderful response for which we all should be appreciative...was thoroughly refuted by numerous replies.

One reply explained that these disinformation/misinformation/conspiracy theory diatribes sourced out of Fox and other disreputable media use a technique of integrating factual information into their discourse in order to make their entire argument appear reasonable and justifiable. Very interesting. Very insidious.

Highly insidious. This what comes from drinking the Trump Kool-Aid.

Which apparently many otherwise intelligent people have done - people with college degrees. This I find incomprehensible.

Except that it occurs to me that somehow, psychologically, it must be tied into their concept of identity: an us-versus-them syndrome. But who knows. The problem is, that even when Trump has vacated the White House, all the Kool-Aid drinkers will still be right here with us.

How do we move forward together if that is the case?

My own brother and sister in law told me last week that it was all a plot by the Democrats to ruin Trump's election. I just walked away in despair.

Oh my. I would have walked away too. What can you say in the face of willful, determined, deliberate ignorance?

It's just like a cult, isn't it - on a massive scale.

Very scary.
