Sunday Drive: Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me

There are more melodious versions of this lovely old hymn, a great favorite of your Head Trucker's; but this one by the great Flatt and Scruggs speaks to me this morning.

If bluegrass is not your thing, here's a "sweeter" version by the Crist Family:

Well there is obviously a huge cultural divide between us. Partly my hearing is not what it used to be and partly the cowboy twang leaves me unable to understand but every fourth word. I am not much for religious music, but if you must, give me an Ave Maria or Gregorian Chant - those I can bear.

A cultural divide - I expected that. But what a wonderful opportunity to celebrate DIVERSITY, is it not? I wonder what the folk music of Calabria sounds like.

I admit that the old-time bluegrass is, like corn liquor, hard for the uninitiated to swallow. A little dab'll do ya - and it's not my favorite thing, but it's part of the quilt of memories and associations of my younger life.

But I've now posted a little sweeter version - lyrics are in the video description.
