The King's Speech

Screen capture of the speech from the Associated Press broadcast.
Queen Camilla, in white, is seated to the King's left.

King Charles III addressed a joint session of Congress yesterday, as his mother had done in 1991.  Surveying the whole field of our common heritage from Magna Carta to the present, and displaying a deep understanding of American history and politics, his eloquence and humor went over well with the assembled representatives, who interrupted him with standing ovations a number of times.   A lovely speech by a kindly old friend, full of warmth, wisdom, and gentle warning - well worth heeding by those now in power.

If only they would!

The Associated Press transcipt of the speech can be found here.

wow! What an incredible speach, i started taking notes and pausing and rewinding. I counted at least 13 specific subjects he addressed openly, but fearlessly. Starting with Checks and Balances of our Executive Branch. Caring for ALL people less fortunate and different especially. Also necessity and praise of NATO starting with article 5 at 9 -11...(25th anniversary this year) to need to help Ukraine today. Climate change. Respect for RULE OF LAW. Tarriffs vs trade. Respect for nature. And ignore the call of Nationalism. He quoted Kennedy, Teddy Rosevelt, Lincoln.. actions speak louder than words...the world is watching you. Resolve for the next 250 years to Continue in Selfless Service of both nations to our peoples and all the peoples of the world. This was a speach all about us as examples AGAINST the mess we are in Now.

You took notes? I am totally impressed. Excellent work, too. Go to the head of the class!

But I can only give you 99% credit. You missed the very first quote - by, of all people, Oscar Wilde!

Quite right. He did it with such finesse, too. Unfortunately, it sailed right over the big orange head.
