Pope Francis has died, aged 88, the Vatican announced this morning. He made his last public appearance yesterday, in obviously frail condition, to bless the crowds in St. Peter's Square. Like his namesake, he will be remembered as a humble, compassionate champion of the poor and powerless of the world who tirelessly promoted peace among nations as well as respect for the environment. He also on several occasions expressed support for the work of an American gay rights group founded by a Catholic nun and a priest, New Ways Ministry. Francis lived the faith that he preached; he was an inspiration to many, a fine Christian man and a fine pope.
Requiem aeternam dona ei, Domine; et lux perpetua luceat ei.

Thank you, Russ for a very nice tribute to Francis. His death came as a surprise this morning. I think he was the right Pope for the times and he had a monumental challenge straddling the progressive and conservative forces in the Church. May his spirit continue to guide the Church in the days to come.
Yes, an enormous challenge - one might say an impossible job - damned if you do, and damned if you don't. But what always impressed me about Francis was his genuine humility and his compassion - he just loved people. A fine example - an imitation of Christ. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.
thankyou for the pie jesu, y' know i love it. Francis was the first Pope in many successions i have felt was the right man, living the spirit of Christianity. He worked to push gently the dogma and balking of Church. And world he lead by example uncompromising
You're welcome, I knew you'd like it - we were just talking about it the other night. I never heard of The Priests before, but they sing beautifully - they are Irishmen in Ireland. You should look up some of their other songs.
Yes, Francis had the true Chrisitan spirit. God rest his soul.
