Angela Lansbury, beloved star of stage, screen, and television in a phenomenal career that spanned nine decades, died yesterday at her home in Los Angeles, five days short of her 97th birthday.
This is a superb piece and she was a terrific actress - too good in her words. "Stardom" isn't really for the great. I first saw her on broadway in 1967 in Mame. I've adored her ever since. There was something so honest and honorable about her.
A terrific actress, yes - the length and breadth of her career are really quite breathtaking when you think about it. One of the all-time great talents. She was never at the top of the glamour list like Liz, Marilyn, etc., but was nominated for an Oscar at age 17, and just kept going and going and going for eighty more years. Wow.
