He is a conservative, and I don't agree with everything he says; but he's come a long way. When he got to this country a couple of decades ago, he was thinking the Republicans were equivalent to the Conservative party in Britain; but his eyes were opened by the lies of the Bush-Cheney regime, and the Iraq War. So he's conservative in the classical sense but not a Republican, and he heaps tons of scorn on them.
He also has a brilliant mind, and has written a slew of books on gay rights, especially on marriage equality, which he was one of the very first to argue for, starting 20 years ago when it wasn't even on the radar. He's a good writer, and I always find lots of interesting posts on his blog on all kinds of subjects, serious to silly.

I saw him on HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher show friday. He's way too conservative and right wing with some really off the wall political opinions.
