I think it speaks for itself, so I won't explain other than to say it was taken on August 2, 1956, by the great O. Winston Link, who famously documented the final years of steam on the Norfolk and Western.

I love trains! It's a shame the country's main focus is so much dependant is on the auto.
Glad you like guys. Yes Europe and Japan are waaaaay ahead of us on trains - would save a lot of energy if we got up to speed with the railroads.
I used to live in Abingdon, VA, a big stop for a branch of the N&W. I've seen many of Winston Link's photos. Great stuff.
My father was a fireman and engine dirver (an engineman) for many years. even fired some of the last oil-burning steams.
